Serving dyslexic, struggling, and emergent readers

Structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham) is the “gold standard” for dyslexia treatment and has been scientifically backed by more than three decades of research from The National Institutes of Health. Not only is structured literacy an effective method to help struggling readers and writers, but overall, it is also the best way to teach the foundations of literacy to all students.

Whether online or in person at PTR  I use a Structured Literacy (Orton Gillingham) approach to reading remediation.  This covers all components of reading including: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension and fluency.  I will screen your child  to assess the type of help they need, and will customize every lesson to meet those needs.

The way the brain learns to read is settled science, backed by decades of research. Our brains are hardwired to learn to speak, but not to read. To learn to read, students need to be able to do two things: decode written words and comprehend what those words mean. This requires explicit, systematic instruction and practice over time.
